Wheelchair tennis is one of the fastest growing and most challenging
of all wheelchair sports. Everyone, including quads and those who
use power chairs, can play competitively. There are 12 levels of
competition: five men's divisions, three women's divisions, two
quad divisions, one master's division (ages 40+) and one junior
division.
In wheelchair tennis, rules and regulations are basically the
same as in traditional tennis, except the wheelchair player is
allowed two bounces of the ball. The sport allows individuals
with disabilities the opportunity to play tennis with their family
and friends regardless if they have a disability or not. Proficient
wheelchair users can play and actively compete against standup
players.
