Colorado Wheelchair Softball was founded in 1996 to help promote Coloradoans with disabilities to actively participate in America's Greatest Pastime. Since our inception, we have helped countless individuals with physical impairments learn to compete on an equal yet competitive playing field through the introduction of wheelchair softball. Many of our players, both past and present, have learned to become active and productive members of society both directly and indirectly through the self confidence-building techniques one learns through team sports. Our mission is to further support the introduction of the sport to children, women and minorities with physical disabilities as well as to foster an avenue for elite athletes to compete at their highest level.

SPECIAL REPORT
Coloradoan Helps Minnesota Twins Advance to Fifth Place Finish
The 29th National Wheelchair Softball Tournament
August 11-13, 2005
Columbus, Ohio

Garrett Osborne crosses the plate for the go-head game-winning run advancing the Minnesota Twins to a fifth place finish at the 29th National Wheelchair Softball Tournament in Columbus, Ohio
Although the Colorado Rockies wheelchair softball team failed to make an appearance at this year’s National Wheelchair Softball Tournament, Colorado’s starting catcher Garrett Osborne helped make a big impact playing for the Minnesota Twins. Osborne, one of the fastest quadriplegics in the game, is a native Coloradoan and resides in Arvada. He agreed to play for the Twins who were short-handed coming into the tournament.

During tournament play, Osborne shared playing time with the Twins regular catcher Chad O’Fallon but the team needed both players to win the fifth place game against the Chicago White Sox. In a 2-2 tie, the Twins capitalized on Osborne’s speed by placing him in to base run for a higher, yet slower class III. Osborne’s ability to quickly take bases was soon realized in the fifth inning as he denied the White Sox from making forced outs on second and third base. Osborne is credited with the go-ahead game-winning run as he crossed the plate later in the fifth inning.
With the win, the Twins advanced their national ranking from the bottom of Division I to fifth place in the nation. As for Osborne, he will join the Colorado Rockies next year as they compete for the national title at the 30th National Wheelchair Softball Tournament in Chicago.
