Meet David Wolf! Dave became a member of the Mountain States Chapter in 1987. He was injured due to a fall from a five story building. Prior to his injury, Dave served in the Army as a refrigerator, air conditioning mechanic, part of The Army Maintenance Mechanical System. Dave has been an active member of PVA for many years. He served on the MSCPVA Board of Directors from 1991-1994, where he served as Secretary, Vice President and Sports Director. He returned to the Board during 2005-2006 and currently serves as the Chapter’s Sports Director.
As many who know Dave will attest, he has truly not let his injuries limit his physical activity. As the MSCPVA 2009 Sports Award recipient, he is a role model for how to remain active and continue to participate in the sports you love. He started out playing wheelchair basketball with the Nuggets for six years. This past summer Dave participated in his second National Veteran Wheelchair Games in Spoken, Washington, where he medaled in the obstacle course and hand-cycling. Additionally, he completed Ride the Rockies, a week-long cycling tour throughout the Colorado Rocky Mountains. As part of this tour, he went over two mountain passes including Independence Pass at an elevation of 12,095 ft. Of his many athletic accomplishments, he notes his greatest achievement of late has been losing 130lbs. He accomplished this through focus and “being diligent about getting work outs in.” In fact, many suggest that Dave is not just diligent about his work outs but obsessed!
Dave has been a constant supporter of the Chapter’s work as a volunteer, participant and general cheerleader. He specifically appreciates the camaraderie among the MSCPVA members. He notes “I wouldn’t be where I am today without PVA. I don’t think any service connected veteran would be either.” He and MSCPVA look forward to continuing to support Chapter sports opportunities in the future. MSCPVA would like to express our appreciation for Dave’s dedication and for being a model to all paralyzed veterans.
