Sports & Recreation Bowling
When bowling from a wheelchair, pin-crushing power is not as important as a good rolling ball. Since you won't be able to swing the ball high behind your body, you'll need to swing it back in a straight pendulum motion, and let the weight of the ball do the work. Keep your head still, and your weight on the opposite side of your chair. Follow through ... nice and easy.
To explain the finer points of the game and introduce the available
adaptive equipment, the American
Wheelchair Bowling Association (AWBA) has produced a book
and a video, the 30-minute "Wheelchair Bowling." Formed
in 1962, the association has 500 members nationwide. All members
receive The 11th Frame, a bi-monthly newsletter listing
tournament results and upcoming events.
