Basketball is regarding by many as the flagship sport of wheelchair sports. What began more than 50 years ago as a way to blow off steam by returning veterans in VA hospitals has evolved into a national institution.

The National Wheelchair Basketball Association boasts more than 200 teams and 3,500 members, and is a worldwide phenomenon. There are men's teams, women's teams and teams for kids; there are conferences, divisions, intercollegiate, World Cup play — you name it.

Wheelchair basketball is fast and raucous, subtle and complex. If any wheelchair sport has the potential to reach a broad mainsteam audience, roundball is the one.

The Denver 'Rolling' Nuggets practice every Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 7:00- 9:00 PM; October through April at Gold Crown Fieldhouse, 150 S. Harlan St. in Lakewood, Colorado.
